Fun Waffle Game Studios is committed to delivering immersive, story-driven gaming experiences. Our unannounced Narrative Adventure project, inspired by classic point-and-click adventure games, offers players rich storytelling and captivating visuals. We are looking for a skilled Character Artist to help bring our characters to life with compelling design and attention to detail.

The Position

As a Character Artist, you will design, model, and texture high-quality characters that fit seamlessly within the game’s world and narrative. You’ll work closely with the Art, Animation, and Narrative teams to ensure characters embody the game's visual style, personality, and story.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Design and create detailed character models using Character Creator, iClone, Blender, and Maya.

  2. Develop clean and efficient topology for character models suitable for animation.

  3. Texture characters using tools like Substance Painter or similar software to achieve realistic or stylized looks, depending on the project’s art direction.

  4. Work collaboratively with the Animation team to ensure characters are rigged and ready for dynamic in-game animation.

  5. Implement characters into Unreal Engine, ensuring proper integration and optimization.

  6. Iterate on character designs based on feedback from the Art Director and team.

  7. Collaborate with the Narrative team to ensure characters reflect their personalities, roles, and story arcs.

  8. Maintain consistency with the game’s overall art direction and visual style.

Qualifications

  1. Proven experience as a Character Artist in the gaming industry, with a strong portfolio showcasing character models and textures.

  2. Proficiency in Character Creator and iClone, with the ability to leverage their full potential.

  3. Advanced knowledge of Blender and Maya for modeling and rigging.

  4. Strong understanding of human and creature anatomy, proportion, and form.

  5. Expertise in texturing tools such as Substance Painter or Quixel Mixer.

  6. Familiarity with Unreal Engine’s character pipeline, including materials, shaders, and animations.

  7. Excellent artistic and technical skills with an eye for detail.

  8. Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to feedback in a collaborative environment.


Bonus Skills

  1. Experience creating stylized characters for narrative-driven games.

  2. Knowledge of Unreal Engine’s MetaHuman framework.

  3. Understanding of facial animation and lip-sync systems.

  4. Experience in creating modular character systems for customization.

Equity-Based Project Opportunity

This role is part of an equity-based project. You’ll earn a percentage of the profits when the game ships within a 12-month rolling calendar.
